Scripture Memory

As a congregation we have begun a regular program of memorizing Scripture.

Why memorize Scripture?

Scripture memorization is one of the fundamental spiritual disciplines (What is a spiritual discipline?)  that we can practice to help us become people who live like Jesus.  In memorizing Scripture, we are able to meditate on God’s word day and night.  (Joshua 1:8).  As we memorize Scripture, we begin to fill our minds with the thoughts of God rather than all of the other messages that we receive, i.e. our minds are renewed (Romans 12:2).

But, I can’t memorize!

Yes, you can.  It is more difficult for some people than others, but it is possible.  We believe that God wants you to do this and will help you to do it.
Some tips on memorizing Scripture

Begin by reading the verse along with its surrounding verses (the co-text).  Then pray and ask God to help you in this process, planting His word deep inside of you so that you might be shaped and fashioned to look like Christ.
