The Covenant Church

We believe that God our creator has also called us to create, including art that we can use to worship him.  We do not worship that which we create but art can be a way for us to worship and express our love for God.  As a congregation we encourage this sometimes through churchwide art projects and at other times by asking artists within the church to create something based on a specific theme.  This page shows the projects that we have done over the last few years.

During Lent 2010, we asked people in the congregation to decorate small crosses to remember their salvation.  These crosses were then put together to create two large banners.

This was a “surprise project” created by one of our members, Shirle Bedient, in which individuals and groups were given a small square to color and then when the pictures were placed together the final project was seen.

During Lent of 2009, we asked a number of individuals to create artwork based on Jesus’ last few days.  These are their work inspired by the passion narrative found in Scripture.

Created for a sermon series based on various psalms and the language we learn from them, this artwork was based on Psalm 150 and the language of praise.

This banner was created in conjunction with a sermon series that we did in 2007 on prayer. Below is an explanation, followed by photos of the finished weaving. This is an ongoing project, creating Chrismons, which are symbols of the life and ministry of Jesus.  We use them to decorate trees during the Advent and Christmas season.
